About this place
Tucked down a narrow alley off Shinagawa Station's Konan exit, Genki-ya specializes in offal and yakiniku grilled over tabletop charcoal shichirin braziers. Its pork selection features juicy, substantial shirokoro (chitterlings), alongside crunchy cartilage, lean temple meat (kashira), and pork tongue, with assorted platters available so you can pick your favourite cuts. The aroma of the charcoal smoke combined with the deep, chewy richness of the offal makes it a natural match for a round of drinks.
Midday diners will find a generous lineup of lunch sets designed to fill you up. The 3-cut combo features kalbi, skirt steak (harami), and assorted beef trimmings, served alongside rice, soup, a small side dish, and almond jelly for dessert. Another option is the beef trimmings set, which you can dip sukiyaki-style into a mix of raw egg and table sauce, while the skirt steak set lets you choose the meat weight to suit your appetite.
In the evening, meals can revolve around full yakiniku courses accompanied by appetizers like senmai sashimi (third stomach) and house-made Chinese cabbage kimchi. The Genki-ya Course covers everything from appetizers and salads to salt-seasoned and sauce-glazed meats through to a concluding rice dish, with an optional all-you-can-drink plan well suited to dinners with friends or larger gatherings. The retro atmosphere provides an unpretentious backdrop for lingering over charcoal-grilled meats.
